Readiness is a filter, not a feeling
“Everyone’s fine” is not a status. Filter to the people on tomorrow’s allocation and see which assigned records fail.

Quick answer
Workforce readiness software in FieldClear means checking whether the people you plan to allocate meet the training and qualification requirements you assigned, with expiry calculated from today. It does not authorise site access, decide what a principal contractor requires, or certify that someone is competent.
Readiness that lives in someone’s head
The contracts manager “knows the gang”. The spreadsheet was updated last month. The gate still turns someone away because a card expired on Tuesday. Readiness has to be a current filter against named people, not a memory of last year’s pack.
Typical pre-allocation routine
- Keep the matrix current after starters, leavers and role changes.
- Before allocating, filter to the named people.
- Resolve expired and missing items — or swap workers.
- Show or export evidence if the principal asks.
- Leave reminders running so the next allocation is not a surprise.
What FieldClear does not do
- It does not authorise site access or issue permits.
- It does not decide client or principal-contractor rules.
- A ready status means assigned records are current on the dates you entered — not that work is safe to start.
You can keep using Excel. But Excel won’t chase expiries for you.
Excel is flexible, familiar and free, which is exactly why almost every contractor starts there. The limitation isn’t the spreadsheet — it’s that a spreadsheet can only tell you what someone last typed into it.

Plenty of contractors run a perfectly good spreadsheet for years. The question isn’t whether Excel works — it’s whether anyone is checking it the week something quietly expires.

Questions people ask before signing up
When should we use FieldClear instead of Excel?
Use FieldClear when more than one person edits the matrix, when certificates expire without anyone noticing, or when you need evidence attached to the same record as the date. A carefully maintained spreadsheet can still work for a tiny team with one owner; FieldClear is for when the spreadsheet has become an active operational job.
Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?
Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.
Can I get reminders before certificates expire?
Yes. The system monitors expiry dates and sends reminders in advance. You choose how far ahead reminders are sent and who receives them.
Can I track subcontractors?
Yes. Workers can be recorded as employees, subcontractors, agency workers or other worker types, and you can filter the matrix by type.
Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?
No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.
How does the free trial work?
You get 14 days with the full product and no card required. Import your matrix, invite colleagues and see whether it fits how you work. If you do nothing at the end of the trial, the account simply stops.
Your training matrix already exists. Make it useful.
