Training Matrix & Certificate Tracking for Demolition
Match operatives, plant operators and supervisors to CCDO grades, asbestos-related training and plant categories your demolition phases actually use.
Examples of qualifications are illustrative. Your organisation decides which requirements to assign.

The operational problem
Demolition phases change the people and records you need. A demolition competency matrix — used here in the practical sense of a role-and-requirement training matrix — should show CCDO grade, plant category, asbestos scope and face-fit evidence separately, not a single “demo trained” colour that survives every method-statement change.
Phase changes rewrite the requirement set
Soft strip, structural demolition and crushing each need different grades, plant categories and exposure controls.
Plant tickets get flattened
“CPCS valid” in Excel does not show whether the category matches the excavator, shear or crusher on the package.
RPE evidence is fragmented
Face-fit results, mask models and asbestos awareness dates often live in three folders while the matrix only has one dusty column.
What demolition teams typically track
Examples only. Requirements vary by role, activity, client and site. FieldClear does not decide what is legally required.
- CCDO demolition labourer / operative / advanced grades (as used on your pathway)
- CCDO supervisor (where assigned)
- CPCS or NPORS plant category (machine-specific)
- Asbestos awareness
- Non-licensed asbestos work training (where that work is assigned)
- Face-fit test for RPE in use
- RPE awareness / wearer training as assigned
- CAT and genny / service avoidance where ground disturbance applies
- CSCS or site access card where the principal contractor requires it
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- Silica or dust awareness where your process assigns it

Fictional example for illustration. Status labels mirror how a live matrix surfaces current, expiring, expired and missing records.
Why spreadsheets struggle in this sector
Demolition workbooks age badly because the phase changes faster than the file. Soft-strip columns get reused for structural weeks without clearing plant categories. Face-fit dates sit in a site folder while asbestos awareness is a tick box with no scope note — so an awareness record looks like permission for non-licensed tasks. When a shear attachment arrives, nobody can filter who holds the matching category without opening card photos. Subcontract gangs email PDFs the night before, and two competing matrices disagree about who is current for tomorrow’s soft landing.
How it works
From spreadsheet to live matrix in minutes.
No implementation project. No onboarding calls. Start with the file you already maintain.
Step 1: Upload your matrix
Import your existing Excel or CSV file.
Step 2: We organise it
Map workers, roles, requirements and expiry dates.
Step 3: See what needs attention
Instantly see expired, expiring and missing requirements.
Expiry tracking
See what’s expiring before it blocks work.
Expired, expiring and missing records surface as a work list. Attach certificate files to the same worker record as the date so evidence and status cannot drift apart.

Quick answer
A demolition competency matrix in FieldClear is a live training matrix: workers against CCDO grades, plant categories, asbestos-related training and RPE evidence your organisation assigns, with statuses and reminders. It does not approve a demolition plan or replace licensed asbestos controls. Product overview: training matrix software. Sector hub: demolition training matrix.
Competency matrix vs training matrix
Buyers often search “demolition competency matrix” when they mean a training and qualification grid with dates. True competency assessment — can this person run this attachment on this structure — stays with competent supervisors and dutyholders. FieldClear tracks holdings and expiry. Keep skill ratings elsewhere so a current CCDO cell cannot be mistaken for task authorisation.
How FieldClear helps demolition contractors
- Record CCDO grade and plant scheme/category as separate fields
- Keep asbestos awareness distinct from non-licensed training where both exist
- Track face-fit against the RPE model your process uses
- Filter a proposed crew before the phase begins
- Show missing evidence as missing — never confuse it with N/A
Asbestos and demolition carry serious legal frameworks. Use HSE asbestos and construction guidance for dutyholder context. FieldClear does not determine whether work is licensed, select RPE or certify competence. Where sites also expect a CSCS-style access card, verify current rules with CSCS and the principal contractor.
Certificate storage and reminders
Attach CCDO card images, plant tickets and face-fit certificates to the worker. Reminders matter when plant categories and medical-linked face-fits cluster before a major soft-strip. Export packs for principal contractors without rebuilding folders per phase. See pricing for workforce-based plans and the free trial.
Example qualifications — organisation-assigned
Typical columns include CCDO grades used on NFDC-aligned pathways, CPCS or NPORS categories matched to machines and attachments, asbestos awareness, non-licensed training where that work is assigned, face-fit tests, service-avoidance training where ground is disturbed, and first aid. These are examples you may assign — not a FieldClear-mandated list and not a substitute for asbestos licensing decisions.

Questions people ask before signing up
Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?
Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.
Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?
No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.
Can I get reminders before certificates expire?
Yes. The system monitors expiry dates and sends reminders in advance. You choose how far ahead reminders are sent and who receives them.
Can I store certificates?
Yes. Attach supporting evidence such as PDFs and images to worker records, so the certificate sits alongside the expiry date rather than in a separate folder.
How does the free trial work?
You get 14 days with the full product and no card required. Import your matrix, invite colleagues and see whether it fits how you work. If you do nothing at the end of the trial, the account simply stops.
When should we use FieldClear instead of Excel?
Use FieldClear when more than one person edits the matrix, when certificates expire without anyone noticing, or when you need evidence attached to the same record as the date. A carefully maintained spreadsheet can still work for a tiny team with one owner; FieldClear is for when the spreadsheet has become an active operational job.
Can we record plant category and attachment, not just “CPCS current”?
Yes. Store the scheme (for example CPCS or NPORS), the category and any endorsement notes your allocation process needs. Filters then answer whether someone matches the machine on the method statement. FieldClear does not authorise plant operation or replace familiarisation on a specific machine.
How should asbestos awareness and non-licensed training appear?
As separate requirements. Awareness helps people recognise and stop; non-licensed training applies only where your competent process assigns that work. Never let one asbestos column imply licensed work. Face-fit and RPE evidence should also stay separate from course dates.
Does a demolition competency matrix prove someone is competent for structural demolition?
No. The matrix proves which assigned records are current, expiring, expired or missing. Competence, method statements, temporary works and supervisory decisions remain with your dutyholders. Use the tool for evidence hygiene, not as a competence certificate.
