How Long Does Working at Height Training Last?
Working at height training does not share one universal expiry across every UK course. Refresher intervals usually follow employer policy, client rules and the provider's certificate — always record the review date shown or formally assigned, and keep equipment-specific tickets separate.
Quick answer
Copy the completion and refresher dates from the evidence you hold. Do not assume every WAH course lasts three years. IPAF, PASMA, harness inspection and rescue training are different scopes — a green awareness cell must not stand in for them.
Separate the packages
| Requirement | Why it is separate |
|---|---|
| Working at height awareness | General planning and controls |
| IPAF / MEWP categories | Powered access operation |
| PASMA / towers | Mobile access towers |
| Harness / rescue | Inspection or rescue capability |
What to record
- Course scope and equipment covered
- Completion and assigned refresher dates
- Certificate evidence
- Site or client refresher rules where they differ
When to review early
Infrequent users, new access methods or a change of role can justify review before the nominal date. Update the matrix when new evidence arrives, not when a booking is made.
