What Part-66 B2 tracking involves

Part-66 Category B2 covers avionics maintenance privileges within the licence limitations held. It must remain distinct from B1 mechanical categories, Category A mechanic privileges and any company avionics authorisation letter.

Why the dates get missed

  • Avionics and mechanical licences share one engineer expiry cell
  • Type ratings for avionics systems are omitted from the B2 row
  • Continuation training for HF or EWIS is treated as B2 currency
  • Outstation cover assumes every B2 can release every aircraft type on the ramp

See every Part-66 B2 record at once

Workers down the side, requirements across the top. Part-66 B2 sits alongside everything else your organisation assigns, with the status worked out from the expiry date rather than typed by hand.

Told before it lapses

Reminders go out ahead of the date, to the people who can do something about it. You choose how far ahead and who receives them.

The certificate lives with the date

Attach a photo or PDF to the worker record so the proof and the date cannot drift apart. When a client asks for evidence, it is already assembled.

Tracking Part-66 B2 across a workforce

Separating B2 currency from B1 and from company authorisation shows whether an avionics defect or modification package has a named current person, rather than a company-wide licensed headcount.

Excel stores 'avionics – current' without confirming Category B2, type or authorisation. A green date can belong to a B1 holder who has never held B2 privileges for the system in question.

What to record against each worker

  • B2 category and limitations
  • Parent AML number and expiry
  • Avionics type ratings or type training held
  • Licence or CAA verification evidence
  • Company avionics authorisation held separately

Typical renewal cycle

Category B2 sits on the Part-66 AML and follows that licence's validity; record any separate employer authorisation or continuation-training review your organisation requires. Always use the date on the certificate or card in front of you — schemes and pathways differ, and free-text “current” cells hide the problem until someone is turned away.

A note on requirements

FieldClear tracks Category B2 records you assign. It does not grant B2 privileges, certify airworthiness or replace Part-145 authorisation systems; verify with the CAA where required, and this is not legal or aviation regulatory advice.

You can keep using Excel. But Excel won’t chase expiries for you.

Excel is flexible, familiar and free, which is exactly why almost every contractor starts there. The limitation isn’t the spreadsheet — it’s that a spreadsheet can only tell you what someone last typed into it.

Questions people ask before signing up

Can I get reminders before certificates expire?

Yes. The system monitors expiry dates and sends reminders in advance. You choose how far ahead reminders are sent and who receives them.

Can I store certificates?

Yes. Attach supporting evidence such as PDFs and images to worker records, so the certificate sits alongside the expiry date rather than in a separate folder.

Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?

Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.

Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?

No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.

Can I track subcontractors?

Yes. Workers can be recorded as employees, subcontractors, agency workers or other worker types, and you can filter the matrix by type.

Your training matrix already exists. Make it useful.
