What usually goes wrong

Hangar and line maintenance organisations allocate people by Part-66 category, type rating, human-factors currency and the company authorisations that sit under a Part-145-style approval. A useful matrix keeps those layers distinct so planners see what evidence exists before a shift or work package is committed.

  • Licence category is not the whole story

A current Part-66 AML can still lack the type rating or company authorisation needed for tonight's release.

  • Continuation training drifts from the licence date

Human factors and EWIS or fuel-tank safety refresh on company cycles while the AML validity runs separately.

  • Hangar and line rosters mix evidence sources

CAA licence printouts, type-course certificates and internal authorisation letters live in different folders until a shift check.

What aircraft maintenance and mro typically track

Examples only. Organisations must determine their own applicable training and qualification requirements — these vary by role, activity, customer and site.

  • UK Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML)
  • Part-66 Category A
  • Part-66 Category B1
  • Part-66 Category B2
  • Aircraft Type Rating / Type Training
  • Part-145 Certifying Staff Authorisation
  • Aviation Human Factors Continuation Training
  • EWIS / Fuel Tank Safety Continuation Training
  • Airside Driving or Airside Permit where assigned
  • Emergency First Aid at Work

Expired, expiring and missing records surface as a work list rather than something you have to go looking for.

Keep MRO licence and authorisation evidence distinct

Record the exact Part-66 category, type rating or type-training endorsement, and any company certifying or support-staff authorisation your quality system assigns. Keep human factors, EWIS and fuel-tank safety continuation training on their own review dates rather than folding them into a single licence cell. Verify licence status with the CAA where your process requires it; the matrix stores what you enter.

Filter named hangar and line teams before a heavy check, overnight line window or outstation cover. Separate an expired company authorisation from a still-valid AML, and treat missing type evidence as unresolved rather than assuming a green category covers every aircraft on the ramp.

FieldClear tracks the training and authorisation records your organisation assigns. It does not grant CAA privileges, certify airworthiness, issue or renew Part-66 licences, or replace your Part-145 authorisation, quality or release-to-service systems, and it is not legal or aviation regulatory advice.

You can keep using Excel. But Excel won’t chase expiries for you.

Excel is flexible, familiar and free, which is exactly why almost every contractor starts there. The limitation isn’t the spreadsheet — it’s that a spreadsheet can only tell you what someone last typed into it.

Plenty of contractors run a perfectly good spreadsheet for years. The question isn’t whether Excel works — it’s whether anyone is checking it the week something quietly expires.

Questions people ask before signing up

Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?

Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.

Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?

No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.

Can I track subcontractors?

Yes. Workers can be recorded as employees, subcontractors, agency workers or other worker types, and you can filter the matrix by type.

Can I get reminders before certificates expire?

Yes. The system monitors expiry dates and sends reminders in advance. You choose how far ahead reminders are sent and who receives them.

Can I store certificates?

Yes. Attach supporting evidence such as PDFs and images to worker records, so the certificate sits alongside the expiry date rather than in a separate folder.

How does the free trial work?

You get 14 days with the full product and no card required. Import your matrix, invite colleagues and see whether it fits how you work. If you do nothing at the end of the trial, the account simply stops.

Your training matrix already exists. Make it useful.

Upload your spreadsheet and turn it into a live view of who’s current, what’s expiring and what needs attention.
