Skills Matrix Software — Clear About What It Tracks

Most searches for skills matrix software actually need training and qualification tracking with expiry dates. Here is the honest overlap — and where subjective competency scoring differs.

  • Credentials and training with expiry dates — tracked live
  • Clear distinction from subjective competency ratings
  • Import the spreadsheet you already maintain
  • Reminders before qualifications lapse

Two different jobs

A skills matrix rates what someone can do and how well. A training matrix records what they hold and when it expires. Mixing both into one sheet is usually why neither stays accurate.

Where our product helps today

If your 'skills matrix' is really a list of cards, courses and certificates with dates, upload it. Statuses, evidence and reminders are the part a spreadsheet cannot maintain.

What we do not pretend to do

Subjective proficiency scoring (learning / competent / can train others) is a different workflow. We will not market date-based tracking as if it were full competency management.

Skills matrix software vs training matrix software

Buyers searching for skills matrix software often need one of two things: a way to score capability across a team, or a way to stop expiry-dated training records going stale. Those are adjacent problems with different tools.

If you need both, keep proficiency reviews in a skills matrix you revisit on a schedule, and move anything with an expiry date into a live training matrix. That split is how most contractors regain control without buying an enterprise talent suite.

When to upload your spreadsheet here

  • Your sheet is mostly qualifications, cards and refresher training with dates
  • You are colouring cells manually to show expired or expiring
  • Evidence lives in email and folders rather than on the row
  • You want reminders before renewals, not another static grid

You can keep using Excel. But Excel won’t chase expiries for you.

Excel is flexible, familiar and free, which is exactly why almost every contractor starts there. The limitation isn’t the spreadsheet — it’s that a spreadsheet can only tell you what someone last typed into it.

Plenty of contractors run a perfectly good spreadsheet for years. The question isn’t whether Excel works — it’s whether anyone is checking it the week something quietly expires.

Questions people ask before signing up

Is this an LMS?

No. The product tracks workforce qualifications, evidence and expiry dates. It does not deliver e-learning courses or assessments.

What is a training matrix?

A training matrix is a grid of workers against the training, qualifications and cards their roles require. Each cell shows whether that person holds that requirement and when it expires. It is the quickest way to see where the gaps are across a workforce.

Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?

Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.

Can I get reminders before certificates expire?

Yes. The system monitors expiry dates and sends reminders in advance. You choose how far ahead reminders are sent and who receives them.

Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?

No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.

How does the free trial work?

You get 14 days with the full product and no card required. Import your matrix, invite colleagues and see whether it fits how you work. If you do nothing at the end of the trial, the account simply stops.

Your training matrix already exists. Make it useful.

Upload your spreadsheet and turn it into a live view of who’s current, what’s expiring and what needs attention.
