Training Matrix for Part-145 Organisations

A training matrix for a Part-145-style organisation is an operational grid of named people against the company authorisations, Part-66 holdings and continuation training your exposition assigns. It helps quality and planning see gaps before a shift — it does not issue authorisations or replace your MOE, stamp control or release-to-service process.

Quick answer

Build the matrix around company certifying and support-staff authorisations first: reference or stamp number, scope (categories, types, line or base limitations), issue and review or expiry dates, and the authorisation letter. Then attach linked Part-66 AML, category and type evidence as separate requirements, plus human-factors and EWIS/FTS continuation where your training control requires them. Import the registers you already keep, calculate status from today’s date, and filter by bay, shift or outstation before work is committed. FieldClear tracks what you assign; your quality system still grants and withdraws privileges.

Why Part-145 teams need more than an AML list

A current Part-66 licence is necessary but not sufficient for release under an organisation approval. The company authorisation defines who may certify within which scope. Continuation training cycles often run on different calendars from licence validity. When those facts live in three systems — CAA printout, quality letter, training attendance — the first combined view is usually a crisis spreadsheet the night before a competent-authority or customer audit.

  • Authorisation scope must be visible — not only a yes/no certifying flag
  • AML and type evidence must remain linked but not collapsed into the auth date
  • Contractor and temporary certifying cover needs the same fields as permanent staff
  • Single-person dependencies on a type or shift should be obvious from filters

How FieldClear fits beside the quality system

  1. Upload existing authorisation and training registers (Excel or CSV).
  2. Map authorisation, AML, type and continuation columns to distinct requirements.
  3. Attach letters and certificates so dates and files cannot drift apart.
  4. Configure reminders ahead of authorisation reviews and licence renewals.
  5. Export or filter a dated view when planning, customers or audits ask for evidence.

What “ready for the shift” should mean

For a named certifying person on a given aircraft and location, ready means: company authorisation in force for that scope, AML current, category appropriate, type endorsement current, and continuation training current under your procedures. If any element is expired or missing, the matrix should show unresolved status — soft language such as “renewal in progress” without evidence only hides the gap until release time.

CAA sources and product links

Licence-holder obligations and renewal steps are described by the CAA in Part-66 general guidance and renew a UK Part-66 AML. Organisation approval and authorisation rules sit in your exposition and applicable Part-145 materials — always follow those over blog summaries. For operational tracking, use Part-145 certifying authorisation expiry, the aircraft maintenance training matrix vertical, and training matrix software when you want a live import-based grid.

Honest limits

FieldClear tracks company authorisation and training records you enter. It does not issue Part-145 authorisations, grant CAA privileges, certify airworthiness, approve expositions, or replace stamp control, quality audit or release-to-service systems. FieldClear does not grant licences. This guide is not legal or aviation regulatory advice.
