What Is an SSIP Assessment?
An SSIP assessment is a health and safety evaluation run by a member scheme — for example CHAS, SafeContractor or others — so buyers can recognise pre-qualification without every client inventing a unique questionnaire. Training evidence is usually one part of that review.
Quick answer
SSIP stands for Safety Schemes in Procurement. Member schemes assess contractors against aligned criteria. Mutual recognition between members can reduce duplicate paperwork, but each scheme still runs its own process and decisions.
Where training records fit
Assessors typically check that you identify competence needs for your work and can show examples of training and induction. They rarely mandate one spreadsheet layout. Organised named evidence beats a pretty empty template.
- Policies and arrangements for managing health and safety
- Risk and method thinking for the work you undertake
- Training and competence evidence for sampled roles
- Monitoring, incident and review examples where asked
Matrix format versus assessment
| What helps | What does not |
|---|---|
| Named sample with dates and files | Claiming “SSIP requires our software” |
| Statuses that match reality | Screenshots without attachments |
| Clear ownership of updates | Guaranteeing a pass because the grid looks tidy |
Honest limits
FieldClear is not an accreditation body and is not an SSIP member scheme. SSIP schemes do not require FieldClear. This guide is operational context, not legal advice — confirm details with the scheme you join.
