Is a Training Matrix Required for SafeContractor?
SafeContractor does not usually insist on one branded matrix template. Reviewers need to see that training records are controlled, current for the sample they ask for, and consistent with the work activities you declare.
Quick answer
A training matrix is rarely a hard “required format”. Evidence organisation is what matters: named people, assigned requirements, dates and files you can produce quickly. Spreadsheets, exports and digital systems can all work if the sample stands up.
How SafeContractor-style reviews tend to test training
- Whether training matches the activities in your questionnaire
- Whether examples are current and readable
- Whether subcontractors appear in the process you describe
- Whether someone owns updates between renewals
Practical preparation
- Map questionnaire claims to role requirements on your matrix.
- Clear obvious expired critical items before you submit a sample.
- Link certificate files to each sampled worker.
- Export a dated pack that matches what you described — not last year’s folder.
Matrix versus accreditation
Passing SafeContractor is a scheme decision. Software and spreadsheets only help you present evidence. SafeContractor does not require FieldClear, and FieldClear does not accredit contractors.
Honest limits
FieldClear organises assigned training evidence. It does not interpret SafeContractor criteria, guarantee approval or replace competent advice. Not legal advice; check current scheme guidance for your membership level.
