Who Needs Asbestos Awareness Training?

Assign asbestos awareness to roles that work on or near fabric where ACMs may be present, unless they are covered by a more specific asbestos training route for the tasks they perform. Do not treat awareness as a licence to remove asbestos, and do not skip it because someone “only does new build” if they also maintain older stock.

Awareness versus licensed work

Licensed asbestos work needs different training and arrangements. Awareness is about recognition, stop-work behaviour and knowing when specialists are required. Mixing the two on one matrix column is dangerous shorthand.

3. Attach the certificate file.
4. Revisit assignments when a worker moves onto older-building packages.

Refresh practice

Many employers refresh awareness on a cycle even when a certificate has no hard scheme expiry. If you adopt a refresh period, put that date in the matrix so status stays honest.
