Training Matrix for Night and Weekend Cover
Night and weekend cover fails when day-shift tickets are assumed to transfer. Use the matrix to name who actually attends out-of-hours, with current critical qualifications and first-aid cover for those shifts specifically.
Quick answer
Tag or filter people by shift pattern, verify expiries against the out-of-hours window, confirm first-aid and any permit-related training for the named night crew, and keep a short cover extract with the permit or works order. Substitutions reset the check.
Cover checklist
- Named attendees for the night or weekend window
- Critical tickets for the tasks planned (height, electrical, plant, etc.)
- First-aid cover present on that shift
- Induction currency for the site
- Supervisor or appointed person where the method requires one
- Agency worker evidence to the same standard
Planning steps
- Pull the works order task list and map required qualifications.
- Filter the matrix to candidates available for the shift.
- Remove anyone expired before shift end, not only shift start.
- Document cover in the permit pack.
- After the shift, update any qualifications used or renewed.
Facilities and construction alike
Helpdesk call-outs and construction outages share the same failure mode: the competent person on paper is not the one who arrived. Tie matrix names to access lists. For multi-site facilities teams, filter by site as well as shift.
