Training Matrix for ISO 45001
A training matrix supports ISO 45001-style competence and awareness evidence by showing which people hold which assigned training and when it was last completed or expires. It is one operational record among policies, risk controls and leadership processes — not a certificate of conformity.
Quick answer
Map training requirements to roles that interact with your significant risks, keep completion and refresh dates visible, attach evidence, and be ready to show how contractors are included. Auditors look for a coherent competence process; a pretty matrix alone will not carry a management-system audit.
Where the matrix helps
- Role-based training needs linked to hazard areas you control
- Named records for employees and relevant contractors
- Refresh and expiry planning for time-limited qualifications
- Evidence retrieval during internal and external audits
- Gap visibility when roles or processes change
Keep scope honest
ISO 45001 competence is broader than cards and courses: experience, supervision and evaluation also matter. Use the matrix for the dated training element you assign; keep skills evaluations or authorisations in the process where they belong. Do not label every spreadsheet cell as “competence proven”.
- List roles inside the OH&S management system scope.
- Assign training requirements from your risk and legal registers — as your organisation interprets them.
- Record dates and evidence; mark not required where roles fall outside a need.
- Include contractor samples consistent with your control arrangements.
- Review after incidents, change and audit findings.
Honest limits
FieldClear does not certify ISO 45001, interpret the standard, or replace your management system. It tracks assigned training requirements and dates to support evidence gathering. This guide is operational information, not legal or certification advice.
