What’s in the template
A workers-against-requirements Excel matrix for demolition firms that need one place for CCDO or equivalent cards, asbestos awareness refreshers, plant tickets and client inductions — with colour from today’s date.
- Worker rows including subcontractors on short-notice packages.
- Conditional formatting for expired, expiring and current.
- Blank vs N/A for role-specific requirements.
- Evidence location so gate checks are not a photo chase.
- A role requirements sheet for operative, topman and plant grades.
Example columns for demolition
| Example column | Typical use | Reminder |
|---|---|---|
| CCDO / demolition card | If your clients or NFDC pathway use it | Record card type, not just “yes” |
| Asbestos awareness / NNLW | If assigned for the work type | Awareness is not the same as licensed work |
| Plant / attachment tickets | If operators run excavators with shears etc. | Category and attachment matter |
| CSCS / site access | If required on the project | Customer dependent |
| Face-fit / RPE | If assigned for dust control | Keep separate from asbestos course dates |
How to use it
- Add demolition operatives and plant operators on the package.
- Rename columns to the cards and courses your method statements assume.
- Enter dates as DD/MM/YYYY.
- Mark N/A where a column does not apply to that role.
- Review before each new soft-strip or soft-land package.
- When packages overlap and dates multiply, move to software reminders.
Disclaimer
CCDO, asbestos and plant columns are examples only. Demolition competence and licensed asbestos work have their own legal frameworks — a matrix does not replace them. This is not legal advice.
Questions people ask before signing up
Is the training matrix template really free?
Yes. Download the Excel file and use it however you like, including commercially. There is no obligation to try the software.
What is a training matrix?
A training matrix is a grid of workers against the training, qualifications and cards their roles require. Each cell shows whether that person holds that requirement and when it expires. It is the quickest way to see where the gaps are across a workforce.
Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?
Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.
Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?
No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.
Can I store certificates?
Yes. Attach supporting evidence such as PDFs and images to worker records, so the certificate sits alongside the expiry date rather than in a separate folder.
Can I track subcontractors?
Yes. Workers can be recorded as employees, subcontractors, agency workers or other worker types, and you can filter the matrix by type.
Outgrown your spreadsheet?
Upload the same file and turn it into a live matrix with automatic expiry reminders.
