Quick answer

A modular construction training matrix shows who in the factory and on the install site holds which assigned plant, lifting, quality and site-access records — with expiry dates. Download this free Excel template and keep factory vs site columns separate when people move between both. FieldClear can import later for reminders. It does not decide temporary works or crane appointments for you.

What’s in the template

An Excel matrix for modular and MMC contractors whose workforce splits time between production lines and site installation — where copied “current” ticks often hide which environment someone is cleared for.

  • Worker rows with role and worker type.
  • Conditional formatting driven by today’s date.
  • Blank vs N/A distinction.
  • Evidence location for certificates.
  • A role requirements sheet for production, logistics and install grades.

How to use it

  1. List factory and site workers — including agency cover on both.
  2. Do not assume a factory induction covers a customer site.
  3. Enter expiry dates as DD/MM/YYYY.
  4. Use N/A when a column does not apply; leave blank only when missing.
  5. Review before module dispatch and install windows.
  6. When the sheet drifts, upload for automatic status and reminders.

Disclaimer

Example columns are not a mandatory list. Crane appointments, temporary works and client site rules vary by programme. This is not legal advice. A green cell is not authorisation to lift or install modules.

Questions people ask before signing up

Is the training matrix template really free?

Yes. Download the Excel file and use it however you like, including commercially. There is no obligation to try the software.

What is a training matrix?

A training matrix is a grid of workers against the training, qualifications and cards their roles require. Each cell shows whether that person holds that requirement and when it expires. It is the quickest way to see where the gaps are across a workforce.

Can I import my existing Excel training matrix?

Yes. Upload an Excel or CSV file, map the columns to workers, roles, qualifications and expiry dates, then preview the result. Nothing is created until you confirm the import.

Does the software tell me which qualifications are legally required?

No. The system helps you track the requirements your organisation assigns. You remain responsible for determining what applies to your workers and activities. We do not provide legal or health and safety advice.

Can I track subcontractors?

Yes. Workers can be recorded as employees, subcontractors, agency workers or other worker types, and you can filter the matrix by type.

Outgrown your spreadsheet?

Upload the same file and turn it into a live matrix with automatic expiry reminders.
