How to Track Scaffolding Part 1 and Part 2 Records

Record Part 1 and Part 2 course evidence as stages within the recognised progression route, alongside current CISRS card status and supervised workplace development.

Show progression, not a misleading green tick

Part 1 or Part 2 attendance should not be presented as a standalone skilled-scaffolder status. Record the complete course title, date and certificate, current trainee or other card grade, and the development evidence required by the applicable route. Use official CISRS information because course and card requirements can change.

Useful progression fields

  • Current CISRS card type and expiry
  • Part 1 course completion and evidence
  • Part 2 course completion and evidence
  • COTS or other prerequisite where applicable
  • NVQ or portfolio stage recorded by the proper process
  • Supervised experience or employer review reference
  • Next action, target date and owner
  • Restrictions communicated to planners and supervisors

Keep allocation aligned to current grade

Planners should see the worker’s current recognised status, not the grade they are working towards. Training progress can help schedule supervised experience and future courses, while the present card and company competence process govern allocation. Do not advance status because a course is booked or a portfolio is nearly complete.

  1. Verify the current card.
  2. Enter each completed stage from evidence.
  3. Record development actions outside expiry status.
  4. Plan supervised work under company controls.
  5. Apply for the appropriate card through the scheme.
  6. Update only after new evidence is verified.

Coordinate development with workload

A progression record is most useful when training, supervised experience and future gang demand are reviewed together. Give each learner a responsible supervisor and a realistic next action, then check that project moves do not leave required experience undocumented. Avoid setting an invented Part 1 or Part 2 “expiry” merely to generate reminders; use a target or review date clearly labelled as such. When evidence is superseded by a new card, retain the learning history but make the current recognised grade prominent. Sample allocation records to ensure planners are not selecting trainees under the grade they hope to achieve.

Separate learning targets from operational expiry reports so overdue portfolio actions do not look like expired site cards. Training coordinators can review both views together and plan courses around suitable work experience. If the recognised route or card rules change, confirm current CISRS guidance before editing role sets for everyone. Communicate any transition clearly to trainees and supervisors, retaining the evidence and decision date instead of rewriting historical course names to match new terminology.

Training records do not assess scaffolders

FieldClear tracks the progression requirements your organisation assigns. It does not issue CISRS cards, recognise equivalence, supervise experience or assess competence. Follow current CISRS and employer processes; this is not legal advice.
